Why go oil free?

Last year America spent $337 Billion importing oil. That's about $640,000 a MINUTE that could have been fueling the American economy... $640,000 dollars a minute that could be supporting American jobs, American schools, American growth, and American innovation. It's a bad habit that we CAN break, and we don't have to sacrifice our way of life or the spirit of adventure that has made America so great. We just have to break our relationship with foreign oil.

Very few people care what fuels their vehicle, so long as it's clean, reliable, and affordable. Ironically, gasoline really doesn't fulfill those obligations so well. Electric cars are great when you can afford them, and don't have to go very far, which most people don't; the average person very rarely will drive 50 miles in one day. Bio-fuel is nice in small quantities so far, however need a bit more development. Ethanol requires prohibitively exorbitant quantities of space to grow enough fuel for even modest needs. All of these options are, however, much better for our country than our seemingly insatiable dependence on foreign oil.

There is another option, a most often overlooked and abundant resource, Natural Gas, which, while not sexy, makes sense as our most logical and immediately available solution. Natural Gas is domestic; it's clean and gives off up 29 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than comparable gasoline or diesel engines... and of course, you could use NG in hybrids. It also, costs about 30% to 60% less than gasoline, AND you can fill up at home.

Most importantly, American natural gas is abundant and using it puts money back into the American economy, rather than supporting wars we'd all rather not fight. The currently greater than 2,000 trillion cubic feet of domestic natural gas reserves the US currently holds is the fuel equivalent of nearly 350 billion barrels of oil.
